ACMP Code of Ethics
This code of ethics is intended to aid members of the American College of Medical Physics in maintaining a professional level of ethical conduct. It is intended as a guideline by which members may determine the propriety of their conduct in relationships with patients, employers, coworkers, colleagues, members of other professions, and the public. All disciplinary actions of the ACMP regarding ethics issues are limited to issuing permanent or limited membership status in ACMP, and/or censorship.
- The primary objective of medical physicists is to use their training, experience, skills, and talents for the benefit of mankind.
- Medical physicists should strive continually to improve their knowledge and skills for the purpose of rendering the highest quality of service.
- Medical physicists should uphold the stature of their profession by exhibiting sound moral character. Unethical conduct involving moral principles or values should be reported to the Ethics Committee and calls for disciplinary action determined by the Board of Chancellors. The maximum penalty that may be imposed is expulsion from membership in the ACMP.
- All relations with patients, employers, coworkers, colleagues, and members of other professions shall be conducted with integrity, fairness, and confidentiality.
- Medical physicists must realize their own limitations, refuse assignments for which they are not qualified, and seek consultation when appropriate.
