Nominations for Marvin M.D. Williams Award, ACMP Fellow,

and ACMP Graduate Student Award for 2011

 

Deadline for all nominations is February 1, 2011

The ACMP Awards and Honors committee is now accepting nominations for an outstanding member to be awarded the prestigious Marvin M.D. Williams Award and for members to receive the honor of Fellowship in the ACMP, and for the ACMP Graduate Student Award.

Marvin M.D. Williams Award Requirements and Procedures

To be eligible for nomination for the Marvin M.D. Williams Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

1.  Have been a full member of the ACMP for a minimum of 10 years
2.  Be highly respected nationally and internationally for professional activities
3.  Have made a major impact upon professional matters, education of Medical Physicists, and clinical practice development such as:

     ACMP service (officer, board member, committee chair, regional officer)
     ABMP service (officer, board, exam panel chair)
     Officer in related organizations (ABR physics committee, etc.)
     Director of training program (residency, graduate)

4.  Attend the Awards and Honors Ceremony at the ACMP Annual Meeting to receive the award.

A minimum of two letters from full members of ACMP is required.  Each letter should summarize the contributions the individual has made to the field of medical physics and clearly indicate why this individual is deserving of the honor.  (Neither full member must be a Fellow.) 

In addition a PDF version of the nominee’s curriculum vitae must be provided.

ACMP Fellow Requirements and Procedures

To be eligible for nomination as an ACMP Fellow an individual must meet the following criteria:

1. A full member of the ACMP for a minimum of 5 years
2. Highly respected nationally for professional activities
3. Have made an important impact upon professional matters, clinical practice, or education, such as:

ACMP service (officer, board member, committee member)
ABMP service (officer, board member, exam panelist)
Active in related organizations (officer, committees)
Active in training program (director, faculty)

4.  Attend the Awards and Honors Ceremony at the ACMP Annual Meeting to become a Fellow.

A minimum of two letters are required for nomination for ACMP Fellow.  Each letter should summarize the contributions the individual has made to the field and clearly indicate why this person is deserving of the honor of being named Fellow. 

Nomination letters can come from any two ACMP Fellows.

                        Or

The letters can come from the current Chancellor of a region and any full member of the region.  (Note in this case neither individual must be a Fellow.)

In addition a PDF version of the nominee’s curriculum vitae must be provided.

ACMP Graduate Student Award

The ACMP annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to a graduate student’s attendance at the ACMP annual meeting in the year of the award.

The following will be considered as outstanding qualities of an individual nominated for the Graduate Student Award:

  1. MS or PhD candidate in an accredited medical physics program (required)
  2. Active in their graduate program in Medical Physics
  3. Active in medical or Medical Physics professional organizations
  4. Assistance in extracurricular programs, e.g., for the underprivileged
  5. Other volunteer work
  6. Publications, presentations

The student must be nominated by the graduate program’s director in a letter stating why the student is deserving of this award.  There is a limit of one nomination for each program.  A PDF version of the student’s curriculum vitae must be submitted along with the letter of nomination.

The deadline for all nominations is February 1, 2011.  Nomination letters for the Marvin M.D. Williams Award, ACMP Fellows, and the ACMP Graduate Student Award, and the nominee’s curriculum vitae, should be sent by e-mail to the chair of the Awards and Honors Committee, Joel E. Gray, Ph.D. (JoelGray@sprynet.com) with copies to Ms. Corbi Foster at ACMP Headquarters (Corbi@ACMP.org). All nomination letters and CVs should be in PDF format.

Marvin M.D. Williams Professional Achievement Award of the American College of Medical Physics

The Marvin M.D. Williams Professional Achievement Award is given annually to a member of the College who has made a significant contribution to the field of medical physics during his/her career. These contributions include both professional and scientific service. Past participation in the activities and furtherance of the goals of the ACMP are important criteria in the consideration of this award.
